To ensure we select audit topics that matter most to Queensland, we apply a strategic planning approach. This involves assessing the critical risks and issues facing public service delivery and aligning our planned audit activity in response.

We prepare a forward work plan 3 years ahead to ensure transparency around our work. We review the plan annually to ensure that we focus on the right topics and conduct them at the right time.

We prepare interactive dashboards for some of our reports to parliament to illustrate the insights we collect from our work. Our dashboards allow you to find out more about the performance of public sector and local government entities based on where you live or the services you receive. Search your address, click the map, or select a region, and compare entities.

Learn more about requests for audits and our audit mandate

The Auditor-General Act 2009 (the Act) governs the powers and functions of the Auditor-General. Under the Act, we set and table the standards by which we perform our audits - known as the Auditor-General Auditing Standards.

You can find out more about what an audit is and our audit opinions on our page Understanding an audit, and information on the Auditor-General's mandate and powers in the context of government policy in our fact sheet Auditing government policy.

QAO welcomes information on public sector performance and requests for audits from the public, elected members, public sector employees, and other integrity offices. To increase transparency, we publish summaries of the requests we receive from MPs and Queensland councillors on our website.

You can find more information on this process in our requests for audits fact sheet.
